Just tell me

Politicians: I’d respect you a lot more if you’d go ahead and tell me that your party is more important than principles, you’re there for the money, and you don’t give half a damn about your constituents other than as a means to getting reelected so you can stay in the money. When you’re taking a totally hypocritic position, tell me that you’re only … Read More Just tell me

Why Do I Dislike Tom Brady?

Let me count the ways… (from my Facebook this week) Tom Brady is Satan. Tom Brady vacations in Bangkok. Tom Brady uses orphan kids as landscape features in his garden. Tom Brady likes Trump. Tom Brady went out in public dressed like this :

Stennis Flag

A little late, but better late than never

Randy ducked out of the Capital through a service door and crouched behind some shrubs. It was dark now, and he was surveying the lawn and the few remaining cars parked in the loop around the building, searching for any remaining women intent on unburdening their feelings about him through a show of force.

The paradox of home

Preface- I couldn’t write this without coloring the topic with my perspective no matter how hard I tried. But, after a dozen attempts to do so, I remembered that this blog is the view from my seat. It doesn’t have to be apolitical. As much as I am always going to try to be neutral on political issues, I won’t always achieve that goal, but … Read More The paradox of home

It was time to take a load off: College

(…continued) By the time college rolled around in the fall of 1996, my muscular dystrophy had progressed to the point where getting up from a chair was difficult. I had to be aware of what material the soles of my shoes were made of and the type of flooring to be sure there was enough grip for me to do the awkward dance I … Read More It was time to take a load off: College

What next?

Well, the election is finally over. Thankfully, Mrs. Clinton conceded gracefully, and we aren’t waiting on counties in south Florida to determine voters’ intent over hanging chads. The democratic process worked for us one more time. There have been protests that are protected by our 1st amendment rights of speech and assembly, but we haven’t had to deal with bloody coups or military uprisings like we … Read More What next?

Thoughts on the election

It’s almost over. Seven days from today, if the good Lord’s willing, and the creeks don’t rise, (but, Lord, we need a good rain) this election fustercluck will be nigh over. May it be decisive, and may we begin a process of healing and unifying.

Football, coffee, and racism

So… I was just hanging out by the coffee pot talking about how much we are looking forward to basketball season to distract us from the misery that football season has delivered this year. As I was making a joke about how poorly the team from Oxford is also performing this year, a new participant sidled into the conversation. He broke the ice with

How’d I make it to here?

I grew up blessed to have two responsible, loving parents in a completely stable environment. I never had a need that wasn’t met, but my wants were satisfied with reserve. Now, I’m grateful for that reserve. Mom and dad were very concerned about my academic success, and they pushed me to do my best constantly. No matter how much I resisted them to try … Read More How’d I make it to here?

Carrot face’s locker room convo

I found myself having a discussion about the firestorm of presidential race hullabaloo that started when the blonde carrot described his rather bold dating tactics of walking up desirable women and grabbing them by the p…y (kitty cat) to a rather juvenile nephew of a former president backstage on the set of a trashy entertainment show. I commented on the
